The primary material used, a Mesh fabric neglected for many years, was the basic inspiration for this creation. This is Vanessa's first sculpture made from fabric. The textured effect at the bottom of the work was also achieved using the same material. The artist was inspired by its natural silver color and added a contrasting background color, which is also metallic.

The fabric used in this new work evokes fishermen's nets, leading to the naming of the pieces "Fishnet 1" and "Fishnet 2". This inspiration stems from a major ecological concern: every year, hundreds of thousands of marine animals are trapped and die as a result of marine litter, including abandoned fishing nets. By reusing materials reminiscent of these nets, the work aims to raise public awareness of the devastating impact of ocean pollution and the need to protect marine wildlife.

Highlights: It is estimated that 100,000 marine animals perish every year as a result of plastic waste found in our waters. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the material left behind by fishermen who care little about recovering it represents 640,000 tonnes of waste abandoned at sea every year, and takes an average of 600 years to disintegrate. In all, over 85% of the plastic waste found in our waters comes from fishing. To read the full article, click HERE.

About the ''UPCYCLING'' collection: Driven by a deep concern for the planet since the beginning of her artistic career, Vanessa seeks to amplify her impact by reusing materials. Thus, the "upcycling" collection emerges, a testament to her commitment to environmental awareness. Each piece is a singular creation, crafted from a range of discarded materials, including leftover fabrics, rugs and packaging, transforming what would have been waste into meaningful art.
