Description: Inspired by spring, Vanessa wanted to create a soft, refreshing piece. Her pill shape was the inspiration. This birch panel was custom-designed by a Montreal cabinetmaker. Wishing to preserve the beauty of the wood, she decided to paint only a third of the canvas, giving the work a raw, natural feel. An interesting depth is created, while little bits of wood can still be seen, even under the many layers of acrylic.

Vanessa Gilbert practices fluid abstract art. This technique consists of mixing acrylics with a fluid medium to obtain a viscous and slightly liquid texture. The mixed medium can then be poured directly onto the canvas or the desired support, such as a wooden panel, using a pot. The finish of the artist's paints is usually very glossy, however a new matte version is now available on request.
